Bearded one

A Bangladeshi we encountered in a village Somewhere in the country. Lorien took this picture of him at a baptism. He was reluctant to share his story with us, but, with some gentle probing, told us that he used to be a wealthy landowner. He lost almost all of his land one year when the floods were particularly bad – I can’t remember if this was around the time when he was introduced to Jesus, but I remember him saying that the loss of his land was a small one, compared to his life in Christ. He also told us that he was the father of ten or eleven children.

Ive been keeping up with your travel. Fascinating! Was the ‘bearded one, getting baptized or had h been baptized earlier? Just curious due to the robe(?) he has on…or was that typical clothing? Anyway, welcome back home.Rachael, et al said,

”...ten or eleven children” ... does this demand a recount?Ben said,

Allen: welcome back (to my weblog)! There are many many many many travel stories to tell, but I don’t think my weblog is the place to tell (most of) them. Regarding the man in this picture, I don’t know if he’s been baptised or not; I suspect he probably has. He wasn’t baptised at the baptism we attended, though. The robe itself is not exactly typical clothing of the Bangladeshis we saw (the men usually wear Western-style button-up shirts and, in the villages, lungis), but he seemed to always wear this white cotton shirt/robe. We thought he might have once been an imam, but he wasn’t.Rachael: perhaps! (but it wouldn’t surprise me if he was)
